Does Tail slow down my game?+
No. Capture is hardware-encoded on Apple Silicon's media engine, so the CPU/GPU cost is tiny — you won't feel it mid-fight.
Do I have to hit record?+
Never. Tail keeps a rolling replay buffer in the background. When something happens, press ⌃⌥C (or your own bind) and the last 30 seconds are already saved.
Where do my clips go?+
To your Mac — ~/Movies/Tail. Nothing is uploaded unless you create a share link. Local clips stay yours forever.
How long do share links last?+
3 days. After that the video is deleted from our servers automatically. Your local copy is untouched, and you can re-share it any time for a fresh 3 days.
Does it capture my voice?+
Your call: game audio, your mic, both mixed together, or neither. Switch it in Settings → Audio.
Can I trim a clip?+
Yes — open a clip, hit the scissors, drag the in/out handles, save. The trim happens on-device and sharing always uses the trimmed version.
What Macs does it run on?+
Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 14 or newer. No Intel or Windows version right now.
What does it cost?+
